On July 1, 2022, at 12:30 noon, a player reported in the group that the server could not be accessed. I initially thought it was a temporary issue, but after careful investigation, it was not that simple: the server could be accessed for a period of time after restarting, but it would crash again after a while when any player entered. After several repeated restarts, the problem still remained unsolved.

In this situation, the first thing that came to my mind was to change the server, that is, to replace the original spigot server with a better optimized paper server. After the replacement, I tried to enter the server again, and the problem seemed to be perfectly solved, with no more server crashes. However, a more serious problem arose: since this server is a redstone server, it contains a large number of redstone mechanisms, and after changing the server, more than half of the machines became unusable. Optimization and features seemed incompatible, so I had to consider other solutions.

Unable to solve the problem myself, I sent the situation to mcbbs for help. During this period, a player's comment inspired me: why not take this opportunity to directly start a new world in version 1.19, which would be more interesting for the players. Under the influence of this comment, I initiated a vote on the direction of the server to see the players' opinions. The result was unexpected: most players preferred a new world.

Therefore, with the players' expressed preferences, the server simultaneously carried out the following tasks: preparing for the new world and waiting for a reply from the mcbbs experts. Unfortunately, even until the new world was established, I did not see a satisfactory solution on mcbbs. So the only thing I could do was to package the server map and release it as a resource for the new world.

Two days after the successful launch of the new world, I finally saw a satisfactory reply on mcbbs:

It was another accident caused by a machine operation mistake. But it has been so long since then, and I probably won't be able to find out who did it. However, it also reminded me of the importance of strengthening security awareness education. The next update of the server application question bank will focus on safe operations.

This incident reminded me of the following:

1. Always make a complete backup. Coi is useless in situations like this.
2. For redstone servers, it is necessary to enhance the safety awareness of ordinary players, as not everyone knows how to use machines correctly.
3. It seems that server application reviews are still necessary, otherwise the consequences will be even worse.

It's a pity that this world, which has been running for nearly 3 years, had to come to an end (lol).
